Welcome to World Environment Foundation (WEF) **** Managing Environment For Securing Our Future
POVERTY ALLEVIATION

The World Environment Foundation strongly believes that poverty is the biggest polluter. Hence it has established strong partnerships with civil society organizations such as the S M Charitable trust in working amongst the poor and downtrodden sections of society both is the share of Delhi and the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh. It has chosen particularly Himachal as the mountain environment and forest recourses particularly are being degraded in India under the grabs of economic transformation. WEF has adopted Himachal to determine how proper management of national resources can lead to local prosperity and reduce pressure on movement to urban areas. It acts as a catalyst in improving the livelihood of the excluded sections of society in a sustainable manner through an interventional approach. Some of the major projects in this area are:

DAMSEL (Development And Management of Sustainable Entrepreneurial Livelihoods)

This initiative aims to provide sustainable livelihoods for the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh through increasing awareness, regeneration, management and sustainable use of bio-resources with specific focus on development of floriculture. It is also working closely with the local communities in developing community-based eco-tourism, which is an infinitely better option in income generation than the traditional tourism industry, which damages the environment. the main objectives in this regard will be:

To develop infrastructure facilities for such tourism.

To develop and enforce protocols to minimize the negative impacts of traditional tourism on the ecology and social fabric of the area.

To generate revenues which could be ploughed back for the maintenance and preservation of the environment.

PATHIC (Preventive Action through Health Information & Counseling)
