S
M Convention Centre, Palampur is situated about 330 miles
north-west of Delhi and 1500m above sea level, nestling
in the divine valley of the gods, Palampur, the venue of
the conference, is endowed with outstanding natural beauty,
unspoilt by modernity. Snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar
range in the foothills of the Himalayas rise dramatically
just a few feet away from this town, famous for its picturesque
teagardens,
rolling meadows and waterfalls, which have inspired some
of the highly acclaimed paintings in the Kangra School of
art.

The
town of Palampur came into being when Dr. Jameson, Superintendent
Botanical Gardens, North-West Frontier Province. introduced
the tea bush from Almora in 1849. The bush thrived and so
did the town which became a focus of the European tea estate
owners. Palampur can serve as the fulcrum for excursions
further afield. You can visit the Tibetan monestry at Bir
and carry on to Billing, arguably the finest site for hang
and para gliding in the country
